UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 32

With a bit of a delay you can find the results of the Champions League Round of 32 rematches below. There barely are comments necessary, however a few results are remarkable. Austrian SV Neulengbach indeed held half-NWSL based Apollon Limassol to a draw and got them out of the competition. Also, Konak Belediyesi, a Turkish team, is a surprise find in the Round of 16 after beating Polish Racziborcz. One of these teams will even make it to the quarter final as the draw wants them to face one another in the next round. A real thriller happened in Copenhagen where one of the permanent top eight contenders, Brondby IF had to leave the competition early against FC Barcelona. After a scoreless draw in Spain, Barca held the hosts to a 2-2 draw and advanced on the away goals rule. Read more

Traditionally the first leg of the knockout stage has very few surprises. The quality differences between the teams is usually too big, only a few strong match-ups are drawn. In one of those, Tyresö from Sweden had to face France’s Paris St Germain. Christen Press was the game winner for the Swedes as she scored both goals in a 2-1 win. Still, the margin is small before heading into the rematch next week. Read more
