Players Abroad: Omolyn Davis takes her game to Kazakhstan

Through Twitter, I came across Omolyn Davis’ account with a Tweet saying she was playing in Kazakhstan. With not much known about women’s soccer in the country and she likely being one of the first North Americans to play there, I had to learn more. A Player Abroad: Operation Fortuna Hjørring

The second part of our season in Denmark’s 3F Ligaen starts next week. We have a long break that spans from the end of November until the end of March. For the most part, aside from the internationals that have a break for the holidays, the teams stay and train together during the “offseason”. This is a different idea than what we have seen in the US professional/semi-professional leagues. The only comparable organization to this system would be the NCAA where teams stay together most of the year. Read more

Players Abroad: 13 Americans Playing in Germany this Weekend

Some interesting news came out of Germany this week when FCR 2001 Duisburg announced they were filing for bankruptcy. Currently, there are two Americans on that team, Ashlyn Harris and Elli Reed. Although Harris was recently allocated to the Washington Spirit of the Nationals Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), she was to finish out her season with Duisburg and join the Spirit in late May. Players Abroad: Preseason Tournaments and North Americans in Sweden and Australia

Over the weekend, Weltklasse 2013, an international indoor tournament hosted by “Tus Jöllenbeck” a small club that didn’t participate, took place. Here are all the results from the weekend matches. Throughout the weekend, approximately 2,000 people attended the games. The tournament was dominated by VfL Wolfsburg and Turbine Potsdam, as expected, but ended with a surprising winner: SC 07 Bad Neuenahr. Read more
