It all came down to two teams and 90 minutes this weekend to determine the 2013-2014 W-League Champion. It’s been on heck of a season this year and I’ve been very happy to have had the opportunity to cover it for Our Game Magazine, so for one final time this season let’s get to the recap.
This article originally appeared in the December 2013 issue of Our Game Magazine.

This weekend had a full slate of excellent women’s soccer down under. The Westfield W-League Semi-finals most definitely did not disappoint and it is now down to two teams with just one more game left in this 2013-2014 season.
The 2013-2014 W-League regular season has officially come to an end, leaving us with four teams to battle it out for the right to be called the champion. Entering the weekend, Sydney FC was atop the standings with Canberra close behind and Melbourne threatening. This weekend’s results however, made an impact on the final standings before the playoffs.
I once read somewhere (apologies to all my former literature teachers who would chastise me here for lack of parenthetical references) that “Solitude is a chosen separation for refining your soul. Isolation is what you crave when you neglect the first.”
I can’t say the above quote completely explains or excuses my column-writing hiatus for the past couple of months, but there is something to the notion of keeping personal refinement of one’s soul as a private and personal process that is difficult to expose to the masses (in this case, you, the readers).
The truth is, I am a brutally honest writer. That’s just my style. As Ernest Hemingway once asserted? Admitted? Lamented?: “There is nothing to writing. All you do is just sit down at a typewriter and bleed…”
Well, I do most of my writing from a half-broken laptop rather than a typewriter, but I’m usually right there with Hemingway — bleeding for what I believe needs to be said. It’s just not always that simple when the truth is difficult to expose, I guess.
With that being acknowledged, let’s get (re)started.
It’s been a fun season of Westfield W-League play and just as quickly as the season started, we only have one week left of regular season play. The top four teams have booked their semifinal places, the only thing left to sort in the last week of the season is what position each team will finish in.
