Rapinoe lands in Lyon, while Swedish clubs stock up

by Ryan Wood

The rumor last week about Megan Rapinoe heading across the pond to play for European Champions Olympique Lyonnais became reality this week. The U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder landed in France and has already started training with the reigning French league champions. The same can be said for Japanese international Shinobu Ohno, who recently played for Empress Cup champions INAC Kobe.

“Christen Press och Malin Diaz klara för Tyresö”

So says the headline on Tyresö’s website. The 2012 Damallsvenskan champions signed former Stanford star forward and Mac Hermann winner Christen Press, who played last year with Kopparbergs/Göteborg, and 18-year-old midfielder Malin Diaz from AIK.

Staying in Damallsvenskan …  Josefine Öqvist has left Tyresö for Kristianstad … Colombian National Team defender Yoreli Rincon is reportedly headed to LdB Malmö …

Over in Germany

Turbine Potsdam signed Hegerberg sisters, Ada, 17, Andrine, 19, of Norway (they played for Stabaek last year), as well as Norway’s captain Maren Mjelde from Arna Bjornar. Former University of North Carolina midfielder Amber Brooks is indeed off to play in Germany. She left the states Tuesday, heading to play in Bundesliga. The official announcement has not yet come from the team.

Speaking of Norway …

National team player Nora Berge Holstad has moved from Linkoping back to Norway to play for Arna Bjornar. Recently promoted to the Toppserien, Avaldsnes is wasting no time signing players. The most notable so far is Norwegian national team player Cecilie Pedersen. More recently, the club signed Laila Himle, who comes over from Arna Bjornar.

Liverpool continues to stock up

Icelandic international Katrin Omarsdottir is the latest to join Liverpool Ladies. Omarsdottir played last summer in the U.S. for the Orange County Waves in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). Expect at least one more major international signing for Liverpool.
